It is so hard to believe that Luke is THREE!

Height: 37 3/4 (75%)
Hair: whispy strawberry blonde
Eyes: Brown
Teeth: still 20 :)
Shoe Size: 8
Clothes Size: 3T pants, mostly 4T shirts
Nicknames: Lukie, Pookie, Pookie-Pants, Luke-the-Duke, LP,  Lukie Luke
Likes:
the family, Green Blankie, Mickey Mouse, dancing, singing "imperial march"
Dislikes: being tied down
Favorite Food: mac & cheese--- pizza--- apples--- crackers--- yay for the apples because the rest of his diet is carb-based
Favorite Toys: He loves all of the cars and little people--- he's starting to get interested in Legos... I sense I Christmas present...
Favorite Books: Red Hat, Green Hat, Blue Hat by Sandra Boyton. The kid cracks up every. single. time. we read it.
Favorite Things to Watch: Mickey & Octonauts are still preferable, however he LOVES Qua-Quem (McQueen) and Cars now.
Words: He's a talker now--- but it's mostly Luk-ese and people usually need us to translate.
Other New Tricks: He's a ball of energy. He love to be around his siblings (and is super sad now that Annabelle goes to school every day). He loves to help and is starting to find his own voice. He's mostly potty-trained now, only nights with pull-ups.
What's next: Enjoying his first year at preschool... Making sure the potty training sticks so he can go into the kids club on the cruise in December.
How he drives us crazy: He's still a messy, messy boy. He'll make ANYTHING a mess. It's a gift, I think. He's starting to react emotionally to things, so we're trying to teach how to deal with that... wish us luck.
Why he's so awesome: He's still very chill. He brings a great temperament to the family--- maybe he'll be the peacemaker, I don't know. He loves to make up stories and, so far, loves preschool. He's so adventurous and full of life.

Nine Months of Malcolm

STATS: Weight:  19 lbs 5.5 oz (50%)  Length: 26.5 inches long (30%)   Head Circ: 17.5 inches (50%)

SLEEP:  The last couple months have been AMAZING. Ever since we stopped nursing, the kid has slept like a champ. He has two naps a day between 1-3 hours; one is usually longer than the other. Some days his morning nap becomes a series of cat naps in the car because we're out running errands--- (oh the life of a fourth baby).  At night, he usually sleeps from 8ish to 8ish--- depending on how bed time unfolds with the older kids.

FOOD:  This boy sure loves his bottle. If he's hungry and he's anywhere near a bottle, you can be sure he will want it and let you know how bad he wants it. He has anywhere between 30 and 45 ounces a day. He's still a little slow with the baby food. He's got a lot of different kinds under his belt, but he doesn't like to eat them in a big stretch--- he'll get through about 2 oz before he starts getting mad. This month he tried mango, green beans, mixed veggies, yogurt bites, and puffs. He loves the yogurt bites and puffs; I think it's because he loves to feed himself. He's been my slowest eater--- in the transitioning to new food aspect--- so it'll be interesting to see how he develops.

PLAYING/TOYS: He loves to play. It is the main reason he worm crawls all over--- that and trying to get to me if I put him down. The kids are currently struggling with remembering to put small toys up so the baby doesn't get to them--- or destroy their creations. He loves to bounce in his bouncer and recently started enjoying peek-a-boo. He has a dinosaur teether that pretty much goes with us everywhere because he loves to eat it.

PERSONALITY: He has such a get-up-and-go personality. He loves to be apart of the action and DOES NOT like it when he's not. I'll try to put him down in the living room so I can do dishes or change the laundry and one of two things happen: 1. he stiffens his legs so I can't sit him up, so I lay him on his tummy to crawl and he cries or 2. his legs bend so I can sit him up to play, I start to walk away and he cries. I don't necessarily think he wants me to hold him all the time, I just think he wants to be where the action is. He's very happy and inquistive; he recently discovered the springing door stoppers (which are now all put up again). He also loves to crawl to the bathrooms, don't ask me why, but he does. When I kiss attack him, he doesn't suck on my face anymore :( , however, I think he's trying to kiss me now because he just attacks me with his drooly lips. He also started shaking his head back-and-forth, so the kids like to ask him yes-and-no questions just to be silly.

MILESTONES:  9/10 third & fourth teeth *** 9/12 pulled himself up *** 9/2 attempted to scoot down the couch ** 9/11 stayed on knees to crawl *** 9/3 walks around by holding hands ** 8/23 First ear infection

RANDOM:  He's FINALLY completely on the charts! I can't believe how much he's grown. When we were waiting for his appointment today, one of the other parents commented on how big he was; I mentioned he was a preemie and she said, "well you can't tell anymore." Doctor even said, "well, now who remembers him ever being small and why were we worrying?" So happy he's growing so well.

He got over his first ear infection just in time to get his first double ear infection--- I have sneaky suspicion it has to do with him doubling his total teeth in this past week.  Also, he still almost exclusively spits up through his nose, so we're getting a referral to go to the pediatric ENT who did Jared's surgery a couple years ago. Just to make sure everything developed properly under his double uvulas. So, we'll see how that goes.

I know I've said it before, but I'm saying it again: he's growing up so fast. I love this baby phase of learning and exploration--- it's my favorite baby phase--- but he's already trying to stand alone and stay standing. I would not be surprise if this kid walks before his first birthday. He proved from birth that he's wanted to do the next thing, but it's going by so fast. I try to remind myself (and outloud to Greg) to enjoy the time we're in right now--- I'll let you know how that turns out.

Goofy Four

Trying to get our little herd to sit still for a picture is pretty intense...

but we wouldn't have it any other way.

6 Months of Mal

STATS: Weight:  13 lbs 11 oz (2%)  Length: 24 inches long (5%)   Head Circ: 17 inches (10%)--- He's OFFICIALLY on the chart in all three catagories! WOO HOO! Having a preemie is tricky business, and he wasn't even in the NICU. His length is the same as last month, but we think it's because he was wiggly.

SLEEP:  This kid just doesn't like to sleep through the night. I never knew how spoiled we were before. It might be a combination of us getting older and being overtired, but it's hard. We've started to say he's the hardest of our babies. He's so worth it, but man, we didn't know what I difficult baby was until Mal. This month he FINALLY started having longer stretches of sleeping (6-8 hours) but it's not consistent.

FOOD:  He has definitely grown, so we're still doing nursing AND bottles. I'm even toying with the idea of being all done with nursing because it is just so hard for both of us. He seems to struggle every time he latches and has to relearn. As of now, he nurses 4 to 5 times and has 4 bottles, as well.

PLAYING/TOYS: He loves to play, especially when the kids play with them. He rolls all over the place now--- he doesn't have barrings, but it's still fun to see him somewhat mobile. He shoves everything in his mouth and, in the next few days that'll include baby food--- FINALLY!

PERSONALITY: He's still chill, but not chill. Opinionated is definitely a good word for him. He loves to laugh, especially at his siblings but seriously CRACKED up at finding the baby in the mirror. Hilarious!

MILESTONES:  Rolled over--- not consistently though*** Reflux meds (FINALLY)***

RANDOM:  This baby has the whole family wrapped around his fingers. The kids were around when I took his wookie pictures this month, and they could not stop laughing. Mal wouldn't stop chewing on him and playing with him, so giggles would ensue from the rest of the herd. It's so much fun to see so much love.

Malcolm at Three Months

STATS: Weight:  7 lbs 12 oz  Length: 21 inches long   Head Circ: 20 cm--- Our sweet little boy is getting bigger, it's just slow and steady, like the tortoise. :) We'll see if he gets to 8 lbs by four months **fingers crossed**

SLEEP:  Still unpredictable. Doc says its because he's so small, so if we get him to grow more, then he'll sleep more.

FOOD:  He's been exclusive on Mama-milk, but I have a sneaky suspension that it isn't very nurishing

PLAYING/TOYS:  About the same as last month.

PERSONALITY: He loves to smile coo and be awake and aware. He's super wiggly and loves watching his siblings.

MILESTONES:  His biggest milestone this month is that it's going to be on reflux meds now! Woo hoo! Hopefully this will help the food/growth/feeding/weight problem.

RANDOM:  We all love our little baby. He loves to smile and coo. Since he's small, he doesn't sleep very well, but it'll happen. He's got the whole family wrapped around his fingers.

Two Months of Malcolm

STATS: Weight:  7 lbs 0.5 oz  Length: 20 inches long   Head Circ: 17 cm--- For kicks and giggles, this time I actually asked what his percentages were this time, the doctor deadpaned: "Oh, negative 2%."  Again, she reminded me that he's a preemie, so we won't be seeing him on the chart any time soon--- as long as he continue to grow, everything is fine.  His growth did curve off a little this month, but she said the RSV and mostly likely Flu back-to-back probably had something to do with that.

SLEEP:  He still sleeps all the time--- he's spending a lot of time growing and healing from being sick. His sleeping patterns are still unpredictable; I really hope we can find a consistent bedtime in the next couple of weeks, so we can all be more rested.  Just like all of our babies before, he doesn't like to nap in his pack-n-play during the day, but he sleeps just fine in the baby chair we've had since Baby Jared.

FOOD:  This area was the biggest concern last month and boy, what a difference a month makes.  Mal is now almost exclusively breastfed.  I really didn't think that was going to happen.  He FINALLY figured out how to latch on the unlatchable side last week--- all while sick. Hopefully, it goes well.

PLAYING/TOYS:  He smiles a WHOLE bunch now and it's so much fun to see. The best smiles are always reserved for Jared, Annabelle and Luke. As a mom, that is the best feeling to see.--- We've been trying to do more tummy time, but it's hard when he almost gets run-over by his siblings and/or pukes and smears himself in it.--- Out of the four babies, Mal has been the most receptive to a binky, we'll see if it sticks.

PERSONALITY:  He's a super happy baby, but when he has feelings on any certain situation, he will let you know. He seems to be watchful and I'm eager to see if that'll continue, since he's the youngest of four.

MILESTONES:  First shopping in the Ergo*** First sickness*** First ER Visit *** First Hospital Stay ***First Smile*** First babble goos***

RANDOM:  Everyone LOVES the baby. So so so smitten. It's great considering how little sleep we are getting. :)

Malcolm's First Month

Mal & Chewy: Month #1
STATS: Weight:  6 lbs 1 oz  Length: 19 inches long   Head Circ: 14 cm--- She didn't give me any percentages because of how small Mal was from the beginning.  She said he won't be on the charts for another few months, but he's growing consistently, so there's no need to worry.

SLEEP:  All the time.  He is only a month old.  He wakes up once or twice a night and we all get about a 5 hour block of sleep--- as long as we go to sleep around the time he goes to sleep.  Which is pretty good for a month old whose smaller than most newborns.

FOOD:  Mal's a little different than his siblings.  Because of his size, he won't nurse on one side, so I've had to pump exclusively on that side. Needless-to-say, this situation has made feeding really difficult.  The hospital nurses said to give it time, since he's a preemie. In the mean time, he supplement with half breastmilk, half preemie formula--- so he can have more food/calories.  The bonus with this is that everyone else can help with his feedings--- Annabelle LOVES this.

PLAYING/TOYS:  The kids love talking and feeding him, and he's spent a couple of times underneath his gym--- that's about it for our little guy. Everyone is looking forward to when he interacts a little bit more.

PERSONALITY:  Mal certainly lets himself be known--- he figured out how to use his lungs from the beginning.  It's super cute and sad at the same time because you don't want to see him sad.

MILESTONES:  Sleeping five hours. ***First Christmas ***First bath*** First Sea World adventure*** First family fun day ***  First Restaurant visit*** Graduating from preemie clothes and diapers*** He tries to hold up his head, which is surprising for his size, but not for his age.

RANDOM:  Right now the focus in on getting him eating and growing.  The doctor warned me not to expect it to happen the same way as the other kids, so it's a whole new ball-of-wax. I'm looking forward to his body clock to be a little more scheduled and less random, so I can attempt to find a way to get things done around the house and take care of the rest of the family.
