Two Excuses

I haven't been much of a blogger, or friend for that matter, this week because my folks are in town. We've had a blast, but I've been neglecting every other part of my life because their in town enjoying the grandson. They leave tomorrow, which we'll all be sad about, but then life will be sort of normal again...

Just in time for Mema and Deda to come in town the next weekend for our little boy's birthday...

Oh how life would be easier if all the grandparents lived in Texas...

I'm sorry about being such a horrible blogger/friend, but what can you do?

Jared's First Haircut

On Wednesday (pre-stair tumble) I finally gave in and took Jared to get his haircut. Five minutes from our place is this adorable 'parlor' for kids, so I thought we'd give it a try and surprise Daddy with a trim (Daddy's been the haircut advocate).

Jared & I got there the same time as another little boy who had twice the hair of Jared, so we had to wait. His mom swooped in before I could sign in. Even though I was frustrated it gave us time to get used to our surroundings. Once we settled in, Jared sat on my lap and watched me play 'Mario Kart: Double Dash' until he was up. (NOTE: Greg and I used to play MKDD all the time with Jenni and Corey in Provo; literally all the time... so it was bitter sweet to play it again).

When it was Jared's turn, we made our way to a sweet chair in the shape of a Volkswagon Beetle. Jared thought it was the coolest thing until the stylist put covers on him. He didn't know what to make of the fabric around his body because he couldn't see how or where to move his arms. Jared did rather well---for an eleven plus month old who was getting close to nap. He was antsy because he had so many things he wanted to focus on. His razor making funny noises really close to his head, the lady stroking his hair, Mama making funny car noises, Elmo singing songs, another little boy and the razor cutting his hair.

In the end, she got most of his hair to a nice length that we could all be happy with. I was nervous that with the cut would go all the fantastic comments we get from everyone about how cute our child and/or his hair is; no need to worry, he still gets comments because his hair still sticks up and he's still adorable.

Greg was so excited to see the new do because it makes Jared look like a little boy; and that's exactly what I was afraid of---my baby now looks like a little boy instead of a little baby. It's a good thing, I know, especially since we'll have another one in 6 and a half months, but I'm so amazed at how fast this year went. I don't want it to go by too fast; I want to enjoy these precious moments with my children and my amazing husband because that's when I feel ultimate happiness.

Secret Confessions

Happy Earth Day!

A couple things I feel I have to admit:

1.) Jared is a magnet for bumps and bruises. It's a little ridiculous. Within two weeks he hit his eye on the window seal, scraped his head on his Jesus board book and yesterday he fell halfway down the stairs. He's already trying to prove what a little boy he is.

Jared loves to climb (see So Glad When Daddy Comes Home & The Climber) put that together with stairs and its a bad thing. Jared's toys are sprawled all over are living room and usually he's very content. When I go into other rooms, he usually follows me; yesterday afternoon he didn't. He went straight to the stair gate and put enough weight on it that when I came back in the living room all I heard was the gate going down the stairs. Worst sound ever; Greg and I got to the stairs as fast as our legs could take us and, to our relief, Jared stopped halfway down. I instantly scooped up my scared, but not hurt, little baby. We were so grateful that nothing happened to him and he somehow came away unhurt.

2.) We watch Phineas & Ferb even when Jared isn't; like right now (he's napping). It's a clever little show with jokes for all ages, and that, along with Sesame Street is the only thing we let him watch. Is that so bad?
3.) We're excited to see these two in two days... and then Mema & Deda the next weekend for Jared's birthday.... gasp... choke... my baby is almost one...

Peek-a-Boo

Jared really hasn't been into peek-a-boo; but Daddy thought of a different kind and Jared LOVED it.

Easter 2009

Happy belated Easter, from our family to yours!

Before it gets too late to post about Easter...

The Easter bunny (EB) visited our home. EB filled one basket for Mama and Daddy and another one for Jared. What kind of candy does the EB an 11 month old's easter basket, you ask? You don't; EB smartly left a crazy huge bag of animal crackers. Jared thinks they are fantastic! Of course, EB left peanut butter and chocolate candy for Mama & Daddy, but that's completely different. :)

EB also left each of us a book to remind us that Easter isn't just about candy and colored eggs. Jared got a board book all about the Savior (simply tells about the Savior from Premortal to Second Coming---very cute), Mama got the first Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites, and Daddy got the Lectures on Faith and a keyring oil vial (something he's been eying for a while).

After our EB visit, we got ready for church in our new blue attire. Greg & Jared got matching ties from the fabulous online Daddy/Son tie store called My Favorite Tie; then I got a new shirt to match. Some of our old Wymount friends started the tie business and we thought Easter would be a marvelous time to support them. Plus, Greg and Jared look so adorable; I can't help but smile.

After church we headed up to Georgetown to spend Easter with Barb and buy one of her cars (post to follow once I take a picture). Our yummy dinner included ham, aspargus, rolls, deviled eggs, and Oba's Potato Salad (thanks Oba). We had a great time and we're really grateful that we were able to spend time celebrating the resurrection of our one and only Savior.

It was a great first Easter for Jared.

The Climber

Jared is officially a climber. He's all over the place. Since he's all over the place, naturally he gets into everything. One of his new favorite places is the ottoman. He's strong and tall enough to get in it himself. He loves to get in and dance. Then, when he's done, he climbs out himself. Pretty adorable if you ask me.

An Apostolic Message

Thank you for all the congrats about our newest little one!

At this Easter season, and always, let us remember the Lord Jesus Christ and what He's done for all of mankind. We love the Savior and celebrate His marvelous resurrection.

The video is an excerpt from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland's talk from General Conference last weekend. Take the few minutes to listen to his special witness of Christ.

Getting the house makes a little more sense, yes?

Tip of the Day

Mama shouldn't blog during Jared's playtime. Or this will happen...

Any Questions? :)

Red Means Go

It's that time of year. The grass is freshly cut. The dirt is sifted and painted. The gloves are oiled. Home is waiting. All over, teams and fans alike have a new hope. All because today is opening day. Baseball season has begun and I couldn't be more excited. Red means go. GO ST. LOUIS CARDINALS!

I've got Cardinal Fever, do you?

Long Awaited...

Apartment photos! A few notes:

  • I didn't take pictures of the bathroom because they look like bathrooms.
  • We got our washer/dryer asis bargain at best buy and I feel all grown-up owning appliances. I guess a car, building an apartment and having a baby aren't enough... *rolls eyes*
  • Our diplomas are hanging in odd places because that was the last wall open in which I wanted them displayed. It was basically 'how far can Greg reach,' since it's the wall next to the stairs.
  • Jared's room and our room are across the apartment from each other. I tried to put the pictures in order of location.
  • Jared's closet is STUFFED with storage. We barely have any room, but we're very grateful to have a place.
  • Enjoy!
