A Summer to Remember

This summer has, quite possibly, been the best one of my life. With Jared's birth and subsequent visits of family members, life has changed dramatically these past three, almost four, months. Jared is proof of that fact. He's grown so much and has become such a ham! In the past few weeks he's learned loads of new tricks.

He now: sleeps through the night, grabs his toes, grabs anything he can get a hold of, coos and talks, smiles constantly, laughs or all out giggle fits, rolls over (almost always sleeping on his tummy--much to the chagrin of his parents), drools like a maniac, naps in his crib (insert choir of angels on this one), and has both of his parents wrapped around his cute little fingers. I absolutely adore he and Gweg; life is good. Scratch that, life is great. Here are some pictures to prove it:

A New Life

Congrats to our friends and cousins, Ash & Jer, who had their baby girl yesterday. It's not my news to say name and stats, so I will restrain myself. However, we're so freakin' excited she's here that we wanted to say yay!

Here's to a speedy recovery, new mommy! We love you three so much and can't wait to meet baby girl!

Wii Got One---Finally!!!

Once upon a time....

Gweg & I went to Target for Edamame and came out with a Wii. Every time we go to Target, we check to see (as in glance longingly at the case) if they have a wii. Expecting the same empty sight, I look back and discover a console box staring back at me. As a anniversary/way early Christmas present, we got one. Then, the next week, Costco opened and they had WiiFit (Greg needed something to replace ultimate Frisbee). Now, we work out and keep track of what we do. It's been fun, and, don't worry, we're still taking care of our adorable little boy---nothing could keep us from doing that.

2 + 2 =

Four. Four years of marriage.

Greg & I became a family four years ago today in the Bountiful Temple. Each day I've grown to love Greg a little more---never realizing my full potential to love him until I saw him with our son. Happiness is going to a Japanese restaurant tonight to celebrate. Happiness is going for a bike ride on your anniversary because your wife knows it's just another day and we've got the rest of eternity. Happiness is knowing that a family is, indeed, forever. Thank you, red-head, for making my life, and beyond, that much brighter.

Happy Anniversary, I love you.

Gweg: The Man of the Family

Jenni tagged me a week or so ago---since I was playing catch-up I haven't had a chance to fill it out until now--- fitting considering our anniversary is on Thursday.

  1. What is his name? Gweg A. Thomas H.--- he has two middle names, Thomas is from his grandfather
  2. Who eats more? Gweg
  3. Who said “I love you” first? Gweg--- It counts because he said "I think I'm falling in love with you" three days after we met... I week later he actually said it
  4. Who is taller? Gweg
  5. Who is smarter? Gweg is in intellectual matters--- I am in 'street' and emotional ones
  6. Who is more sensitive? Big time ME!
  7. Who does the laundry? Mostly me, but Gweg definitely helps when I need it
  8. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Me
  9. Who pays the bills? I did until we moved here---now Gweg does
  10. Who cooks more? Before Jared's birth: Gweg --- After Jared's birth: Me
  11. Who is more stubborn? We both are--- does that mean that Jared is doubly stubborn?
  12. Who is the first to admit when they’re wrong? Well, since we're both stubborn it takes a lot--- we usually end up reasoning it out of each other--- it's actually pretty nice
  13. Who has more siblings? I do---Gweg is the only child--- I have two brothers and a sister.
  14. Who wears the pants in the family? Gweg as the provider--- Me as the sports enthusiast.
  15. What do you like to do together? We play with Jared, watch movies, play games, laugh, walk, explore and live life.
  16. Who eats more sweets? That would probably be me.
  17. Guilty pleasures? Playing our new Wii and cookie dough(post to follow)
  18. How did you meet? Gweg's second cousin once-removed, my high school/college best friend, set us up at concert. We started dating that weekend and got married six months later. Thanks again, Ash! :)
  19. Who proposed? Gweg proposed a couple days before my birthday. He took me to a wonderful seafood restaurant, The Chart House, and then on a hike up the Santa Monica Mountains. The sun set hit the mountains and oceans just as he got down on one knee. Five weeks later we were married.
  20. What is his best feature? His red (now red-brown) hair, eyes, and smile.
  21. What is his best quality? He's very intelligent, inquisitive, and considerate (I'm so glad he's willing to help with Jared).
I tag: Ash, Mitzi, MidCityGal, Leslee & Brooke

A Jackson Tradition

Granni, my dad's mom, has a marvelously crafty nature. She's pretty much amazing at sewing, painting, quilting, etc. As a new member is added to the ever enlarging Jackson Family Tree, Granni celebrates by making said new member a quilt. It was one of the things I looked forward to when we found out we were pregnant.

In fact, to this day, I still have my Granni baby blanket and, as I type, my two men are snuggling underneath my high school graduation Granni blanket. Jared got his in the mail last Monday and we took a picture to show his Granni just how grateful he is--- thanks Granni--- We love you!!!

25 Years

Twenty-five years ago today, my parents were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. The above picture is one of their engagement pictures. Over the years, the pair of you never failed to show us kids how much you love each other. I've seen how much you both sacrifice for each other and the family. I've seen how to love unconditionally; no matter how upset the other person may make you, you still love them and do your best to step in their shoes. I remember wanting to have the same kind of love for my eternal companion one day and, because of your example of an eternal marriage, I found that in Greg. Thank you.

Happy Anniversary, Mom & Pops. Greg & I certainly hope we'll be as happy as you too in 21 years. Here's to the next 25 and beyond! We love you!

Jared's First Cardinals Game

If you know me well enough, you know that I'm a BIG sports fan and even BIGGER St. Louis Cardinals fan. (TANGENT: is anyone else enjoying the Olympics right now? So much fun!) I've been lucky enough to have a husband that is patient and willing to learn from his wife about sports. Regarding Jared, I've already made a promise to myself that I won't force any kind of sport on him--- if he wants to try, so be it; if he doesn't, then oh well. However, being such a fan of the Cards, I'm sure that will rub off. So, in order to tell him stories about how his fandom began, we took him to his first baseball game at Busch Stadium.

Before the game, Megbo went charm-making crazy again! She made six different charms each for the six women going to the game. We each had a Cardinal, the StL emblem, a baseball, a baseball bat, and a baseball diamond. The cardinal turned into a necklace, while everything else became a charm bracelet. Seriously, she could totally start a business.

Being me, I practically wet myself from excitement as we walked closer and closer to new Busch (my parents moved away from St. Louis the summer before it opened). We explored the stadium and took pictures before the game. Then the fun began. Jared seemed to enjoy himself and the new environment until the cheering started. The faces he pulled were heart-breaking and adorable; he didn't like the loud noises one bit. Oba took him downstairs and walked with him until he got hungry mid-fourth inning. So, I found the both of them and began the awkward business of breast-feeding in public.

Oba & I chatted away casually watching the highlights until Albert Pujols came up to bat with the bases loaded. Oba went to go watch his at-bat through the terminal gate, when I made the comment, 'how cool would it be if...' then CRACK---insert fireworks and a whole lot of cheering. Pujols had hit a grand slam---he's only done that six times in his career---and I was at that game and it was Jared's first ever game--- but neither of us saw it in person. I sat with my jaw hanging near my chest in shock---then I was shot back to reality when my baby started freaking at the fireworks for the home run. The player after Pujols, Ryan Ludwick, also hit a home run, starting another round of fireworks. Yay for the fourth inning!

The rest of the game was more enjoyable. Oba & I found first-aid and got a cotton ball to put in Jared's ears to help with the noise---- It worked! Oba, Jared and I were able to go to the seats and get heckled for missing the home runs. Jared even started to look around until his got tired. In the game, Pujols ended up going 4 for 4 and the Cards won. For being such a good Oba, Jiji took her to the afternoon game the next day so she could sit down and enjoy the game---too bad they lost. It was so much fun to go to a Cards game at Busch; I'm glad we were able to take Jared, however, we'll probably take a break from that kind of adventure until next summer.

Meet Me in St. Louis

Last Tuesday, we made the journey down to St. Louis. Until Sunday, we had lots of fun visiting with the Monizs and Greens, seeing a very pregnant Ash, going to baseball games, playing the Wii, and going shopping. SisMo even threw a joint baby shower for Ash & I; it was really great to see old friends and advisors. I always love going back to St. Louis. I love having a place where I have so many wonderful memories associated with it. It was very hard to leave, but we had to go back to normal life (not vacation life) in Wisconsin. Thanks for everything Moniz/Green Families! We love ya'll so much and can't wait to come back for baby girl Green's blessing (if you'll have us)!

Crusin' the Capitol

The Monday after the blessing we explored downtown. First, we toured the capitol building. A movie with Johnny Depp and Christian Bale even filmed scenes there a couple months ago. After the capitol building, we explored the Veteran's Museum---it has many interesting artifacts. A great tribute to the people who serve our country. Yay for the USA!

I still have a few more things to write about, so from now on I'm going to write a post a day until I catch up! Have fun catching up with us!

Jared's Blessing

We finally had Jared blessed on the first Sunday in August. We wanted to wait so our family members could make it. Jared even met his Great-Aunt Cheryl and Uncle Scot. After the blessing we had dinner, played games, and swam. All in all, it was a wonderful family filled day. It may have been chaotic, as seen in previous posts, but we had a lot of fun and it was very spiritual.

Gweg did a wonderful job with the blessing, he said some marvelous things, that made me feel so grateful to have him, and our little boy, in my life. I'm grateful for the examples our parents gave us---Gweg and I have learned a lot about each other in these three months as parents. Jared has been a great teacher.

Here are some pictures:

Golfland Fun

Saturday before the blessing, we went to a mini-golf place in the area. We had lots of fun posing and Jared enjoyed chewing on his Jeep carrier. After mini-golf, the Jackson siblings played an amusing game of Water Wars---throughly drenching all four of us. Then Gweg & Dad joined us in a wicked game of Handball. After handball, we ate pizza in our cold wet clothes. All in all, an enjoyable day. Here's the evidence:

Breaking Dawn

Megan & I went to the midnight party for Breaking Dawn at the local Borders. Before we went, Meg-bo used her artistic creativity to make us Twilight charms. She had the idea to make E+B necklace charms and I thought of the Twilight series bracelet (one charm to represent each book cover). Meg made them all and I have to give her props--- many people have told her she could sell loads of them.

We ended up getting to the party an hour late---we had fun when we were there, but definitely felt older than the rest of the party go-ers. At midnight, amidst the screams of preteen girls, Meg and I waited anxiously at the beginning of the second group watching a full fifty people getting their books before us. Around 1215, we had our hands on vampire-goodness and by 1230 I was in bed.

She and I spent the next few days reading. Luckily, I had so many people around me to help take care of Jared so I could read. I made my E+B charm into a bookmark with some stickers we got at the party. We both finished in the car ride down to St. Louis. I absolutely loved it---one of the best series I've read and I can't wait to have time to read it again.

Cherished Moments

Jared met his Jiji (my dad and his namesake) and his uncles this past week. He's enjoyed being around a lot of people who love him and, frankly, he's been spoiled. Here are some highlights while in Wisconsin...

Back

We've had visitors and been on vacation the last couple of weeks, so we (i.e. me) haven't been able to update the blog in a while. However, there is no need to fear because we're back and I have plenty adventures to add... so get ready for the bombardment of Gweg, Ambo, and JWalk. :)
